Special education needs co-ordinators in schools and will take part in new nationally-accredited training programmes from September this year.
Adonis told the annual conference of the Voice union for teaching professionals that provision for children with special needs and disabilities was “an absolute priority for this government and equipping teachers with the skills they need is central to this”.
He added: “Overall, funding for SEN [special education needs] provision has risen by more than £1bn in the last four years.
“Teachers who take on a specific role in helping children with special needs and disabilities are an inspirational group, who do an amazing job.
“It is only right that we meet their commitment by providing them with the professional development they need.”
Aside from the £10m set aside for special needs teaching, an additional £12m has been earmarked for existing and trainee teachers, he announced.
